Continuing Professional Development for Builders and Swimming Pools Builders.
Since March 2004, licensed NSW residential builders and swimming pool builders have been required to undertake mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as a licensing requirement. In 2006, a review of the CPD scheme was undertaken and changes recommended.
Changes to the CPD Scheme
On the 1st January 2008 changes to the CPD scheme commenced, with these changes applying to licensed residential builders and swimming pool builders from the next licence renewal date, after the 1st January 2008.
Under the new CPD scheme, licensed residential builders and swimming pool builders (only) are required to accrue a minimum of twelve (12) CPD points per annum. Points are generally earned for each hour of CPD learning, with the exception of points awarded for the employment of an apprentice, and CPD activities undertaken by partner/associate which can earn a maximum of four (4) points per annum.
The changes also require that CPD activities must be related to eight (8) topics (e.g. safety, technical issues) identified by the OFT.
Help for Master Builder Members
Master Builder members should not be concerned; or left wondering if the activity you attend fits with the eight topics because we will ensure that all the CPD activities provided by Master Builders comply with the new requirements. We will continue to issue CPD receipts for Master Builder members for retaining as a record of CPD activities The CPD receipts will clearly identify the CPD points accrued for that activity.
We are also committed to providing as many activities as possible to assist members in meeting your CPD obligations. Some of these activities include seminars, forums, trade spectaculars, training courses and on-line activities and courses, such as our on-line CPD quiz.
New CPD Guidelines
The Office of Fair Trading has circulated to licensed residential builders and swimming pool builder’s new guidelines covering the changes to the CPD scheme. These are available at the following link:
