MBA NSW Housing Sector
Residential builders and subcontractors, form a large proportion of the membership of the Master Builders Association of NSW. Many of our housing sector members are small to medium family businesses.
This important membership base, combined with the recognition of the contribution residential construction makes to the New South Wales economy (approx 9 billion dollars p.a.), underpins the establishment within Master Builders of a specialist housing department.
Residential construction is the only building industry sector in NSW to be regulated by licensing. Therefore, if not for this reason alone, it raises statutory obligations and issues peculiar to businesses working in the NSW housing industry. Master Builders also recognises that country and regional builders face their own unique issues compared with their metropolitan colleagues. Accordingly, the Master Builders Housing Department has a dedicated and focussed role in developing MBA policy on housing reforms and issues, and establishing avenues of communication with state government, government agencies and local councils.
Members take a key role in the formulation of housing policy through the Association's, Housing Committee. The Housing Committee provides a forum for members for the discussion of industry issues and to formulate strategies and policy to address housing issues. This forum provides the MBA with a process that truly represents the views of persons working within the housing industry. Closely linked to the housing committee are the specialist committees focusing on technical, waterproofing and swimming pool construction.
The Association's Housing Department works closely with all other specialist departments of the Master Builders Association to ensure that our housing members are well represented on issues such as Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Relations, Housing Regulation, the Environment and Industry Training.
